About Bill
Bill O'Malley is the owner and sole instructor at Rowland School of Motoring. He qualified as a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor in 1992 and has been teaching students across Sale, Urmston, Timperley, Flixton and Stretford ever since. When the original founder retired in 2005, Bill took over the school and has run it as its principal instructor ever since.
With over 30 years of experience, Bill has taught hundreds of students from across South Manchester — from nervous first-timers to experienced drivers returning to the road after a long break. Every student receives his personal attention and a teaching approach tailored to their individual needs and learning style.
Bill believes that good driving instruction is about more than just passing a test. It is about building the confidence, skills and road awareness that will keep you safe for a lifetime of driving. His patient, calm teaching style has been praised by students of all ages, from 17-year-olds eager to hit the road to drivers in their 60s learning for the first time.
Whether you are looking for a driving instructor in Sale, Urmston, Timperley or anywhere across South Manchester, Bill will collect you from home, work or college and deliver focused, productive tuition tailored to your goals. Every lesson is a step closer to passing your test with confidence.
Qualifications & Professional Experience
Bill's credentials are a matter of public record. As a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), he is subject to regular standards checks by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency — an independent assessment that verifies the quality of his instruction. His ADI registration number is held on the official DVSA register.
Passed all three parts of the ADI qualifying examination and joined Rowland School of Motoring as a qualified instructor.
When the school's founder retired, Bill took over as owner and principal instructor, continuing the school's tradition of high-quality, independent tuition.
As a member of both SMADI and the ADI Federation, Bill participates in ongoing professional development to remain current with DVSA standards, teaching methodologies and changes to the practical test.
First-Time Pass Rates
The importance of selecting the right driving instructor cannot be overstated. Poor quality tuition wastes both time and money. Bill's first-time pass rates consistently and substantially exceed the national average:
Pass rates are self-audited from internal records. National average from DVSA published statistics.
This means Bill's students are around 50% more likely to pass their test first time compared to the national average, saving significant money on additional tests and lessons.
Unrivalled Local Road Knowledge
Passing your driving test is not just about being able to drive — it is about being prepared for the specific roads, junctions and hazards you will encounter on your test route. Bill's 30+ years of teaching exclusively in South Manchester has given him an unparalleled knowledge of the local road network.
Students taking their test at Sale Driving Test Centre on Poplar Grove benefit from Bill's detailed familiarity with every route used by examiners, including:
- The complex junctions on the A56 Chester Road through Stretford and Sale
- Roundabouts on the A57 through Urmston and Eccles
- Residential streets and school zones in Flixton and Timperley
- Bus lanes and tram crossings common in the Trafford borough
- Dual carriageway sections on the A560 through Timperley (WA15)
This local knowledge is built into every lesson. As your driving instructor in Sale and South Manchester, Bill does not just teach you to drive — he teaches you to drive on the exact roads where your test will take place.
